Lebanon's two main Shiite Muslim groups, Hizbullah and Amal, withdrew their ministers from the Cabinet of former Prime Minister Fuad Siniora in December 2006. These two groups consider that decisions made by the Siniora Cabinet from this time until they regained their representation in May 2008 to be "illegitimate," "unconstitutional" and running counter to the country's constitution which stipulates that all major sects be represented in the government. The two groups and their Christian allies considered decisions taken by the Siniora Cabinet during this period as null and void because the Cabinet did not have any Shiite representative.
